All about fittings

(under construction!)

Fittings can be a scary for some people, revealing yourself to a stranger can seem intimidating. Here I will go through the basic protocol for bra fits. Remember that almost everywhere you get fitted will do it slightly differently, so when buying bras feel free to ask the assistants for help.

Here I will show you the steps I take in a fitting (Kindly helped by one of my friends):

First I will ask if the customer feels that she is comfortable or wearing the correct size and what sort of bra she is looking for. After this conversation I will ask her to remove her top but keep her current bra on. You should never have to take off your bra for a fitting, if you are asked to do this and it makes you uncomfortable please feel free to say no.

Then I will take the tape measure and take a back measurement, this is where it varies a lot between stores. Generally I will add on two inches and this will become the back size. Many stores add on four or five but I feel this makes the bra far too loose. Remember two inches on is just a guide, many times this will still be far to tight or even far to loose, it really changes from person to person.

Here we will discuss the issues with the current bra, if there are any, and where it could improve.

I do not measure the cup size rather look and try different bras on, many places will measure the cup. The basis of measuring the cup is minus the cup size from the back size then 1 inch will equal an A cup and so on with one inch more per cup. I find this really isn't accurate for many people, but if you have no idea on your size it should provide a very rough guide.

Here is a bra that is too loose around the back, you can see how it rides up and you also can notice a gap at the front underneath the breast. This means it isn't supporting the breasts as the wire needs to sit flat against the chest.

Now here is an example of a good fitting bra, you will notice that the front sits flat against the chest of the body and the back is level with the front of the bra. The straps should be adjusted so they are firm and will not move but not to the point where they dig in and hurt.

Hopefully this is useful to some of you and helps you understand a better fitting bra when you do try it on,
